Kelvyn Boy defends A-List status for Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy

Ghanaian Afrobeat and highlife artist Kelvyn Boy has candidly addressed industry categorizations, stating that music heavyweights Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy fully deserve their A-list status due to their enduring relevance and long-standing dominance.

Speaking during an interview with entertainment personality Zionfelix, the “Down Flat” hitmaker explained that he does not view himself as belonging to the same tier as these pioneers while they continue to actively maintain their positions.

“If there is an A-list and it’s the Sarkodie’s and the Shatta Wale’s and the Stonebwoy’s, I cannot be there right now if they are still here and still doing it. Keep me on the B-list, or whatever,” Kelvyn Boy stated.

Individual Preferences and Fan Perspectives

Kelvyn Boy further elaborated that an artist’s standing can often be subjective, heavily relying on individual fan preferences and personal connections to the music. He pointed out that listeners often elevate acts like Fameye or Kofi Kinaata to top-tier status in their own hearts, regardless of conventional industry labels.

“Someone’s favourite artiste is Fameye; in his heart, that is his A-list artiste. Someone’s favourite is Kofi Kinaata no matter what,” he added.

Respect for Industry Pioneers

Acknowledging the immense groundwork laid by the veteran generation, Kelvyn Boy emphasized that their continuous impact cannot be overlooked. He noted that because they preceded the younger crop of artists, their sustained success warrants high recognition.

“They were here before us and should be A-listers, but that one no dey justify anything; you have to do your thing, make your own money, and leave,” he concluded.
