Seven individuals including a soldier have been remanded into police custody over their alleged involvement in the robbery of a fuel tanker carrying 54,000 litres of diesel valued at GH¢769,500.
The case stems from an August 6 incident, where the group allegedly trailed the DAF fuel tanker with registration GT-2493-20, which was traveling from Tema to Kumasi and intercepted it at gunpoint, at Pampaso Number 1 in the Eastern Region.
The group then moved the tanker to the Pacific Fuel Station at Bunso Junction, before transferring the diesel into another empty tanker truck whilst the driver and his mate were being driven away in a green pickup with registration GX 2881-22.
The soldier, Corporal Bortey Bernard was however arrested at a police checkpoint at Ablekuma Borkorborkor, after the driver and his mate raised alarm. Further investigations led to the arrest of five others, with four more suspects currently on the run.
