Government pledges full support to the family of Ghanaian teenager killed in Bronx shooting

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured the family of 15-year-old Javits Badu Nkansah Frimpong of full diplomatic and consular assistance following the teenager’s tragic death in a shooting incident in New York City.

The commitment was made today when the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. James Gyakye Quayson, received Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi, mother of the late teenager, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra.

Extending the Government of Ghana’s deepest condolences, Hon. Quayson expressed solidarity with the grieving mother and reaffirmed the state’s resolve to assist the family through this difficult period.

“The loss of such a young life under such painful circumstances is a tragedy not just for the family, but for the entire nation,” the Deputy Minister stated.

Hon. Quayson gave firm assurances that the Ministry, acting through Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the United States, is actively working with relevant American authorities to ensure that the investigation into Javits’s death receives the necessary priority and thoroughness.

Tragic Incident in the Bronx

Javits Frimpong, a high school student who had moved to the United States from Ghana to join family, tragically lost his life on Thursday morning after being fatally shot in the Claremont neighborhood of the Bronx while on his way to school.

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has launched a homicide investigation into the incident, which has sparked widespread grief and outrage both among local authorities in New York and within the Ghanaian diaspora.

During the meeting, Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi expressed appreciation to the Government for reaching out and offering direct support as the family copes with the sudden loss.

Hon. Quayson assured her that the Foreign Ministry will remain in close contact with the family, providing updates from the ongoing diplomatic engagements with U.S. law enforcement agencies and assisting with necessary arrangements.
