Skales revisits past tension with Wizkid, reveals how ex-girlfriend’s tweet and video no-show strained their relationship

Nigerian singer and songwriter Skales has opened up about the personal incidents that originally fractured his relationship with former Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) label mate Wizkid, revealing that a mix-up involving an ex-girlfriend and a missed music video shoot laid the groundwork for years of unspoken hostility.

Speaking in a recent broadcast appearance, the “Shake Body” crooner detailed how early misunderstandings shaped his complex dynamic with the Grammy Award-winning Afrobeats star, while confirming that he has actively tried to broker peace in the years since.

According to Skales, part of the initial friction stemmed from a social media exchange on X (formerly Twitter) that occurred without his direct involvement.

Skales explained that his ex-girlfriend at the time had used his phone to respond to a series of tweets from Wizkid. The replies sent from his account were allegedly insulting, leading Wizkid to believe that Skales himself was harboring bad blood. The exchange sparked a heated public online battle between the two artists, during which harsh personal remarks were posted.

“She used my phone to reply to him, and the responses were insulting,” Skales recounted, pointing to the moment as a pivotal point that damaged Wizkid’s impression of him.

Beyond social media miscommunications, Skales highlighted a key professional disappointment that added weight to the rising friction during their time signed under Banky W’s E.M.E label.

Skales stated that Wizkid was slated to feature and appear in the official music video for his breakout hit single, “Mukulu”. However, Wizkid failed to show up for the set, later explaining that his car had suffered a flat tyre. The absence of his label mate at the video shoot left Skales feeling unsupported during a vital stage of his solo career launch.

Despite the history of public spats and missed opportunities, Skales noted that he has matured and taken steps over time to clear the air. While both artists have gone on to build individual music legacies over the past decade, the account sheds light on how personal misunderstandings can linger in the high-stakes music industry.

Wizkid and his representatives have not publicly responded to Skales’ recent statements.
