In a night defined by high-octane performances and emotional milestones, Black Sherif emerged as the ultimate victor at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA). Held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the iconic Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, the “Iron Boy” solidified his legendary status by being crowned Artiste of the Year for the second time in his career.

The 24-year-old superstar, born Mohammed Ismail Sherif, first took home the top honor in 2023. His 2026 victory makes him the youngest artist in the history of the awards to win the coveted title twice, joining an elite circle of multiple-time winners like Sarkodie and Stonebwoy.
A Night of Dominance
While the competition was fierce—featuring heavyweights like Medikal, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, and Wendy Shay—Black Sherif’s dominance throughout the year under review made him the clear frontrunner. Supported by the massive success of his sophomore album, Iron Boy, Blacko swept a total of five awards on the night:
• Artiste of the Year
• Album/EP of the Year (Iron Boy)
• Songwriter of the Year (Sacrifice)
• Best Hiphop Song (Where Dem Boys)
• Best Afropop Song (Sacrifice)
In addition to his trophies, Black Sherif received a GH¢100,000 investment package from Guinness Ghana to fuel his next musical chapter.
The “Iron Boy” vs. The AMG Rapper
The evening was largely framed as a friendly but intense duel between Black Sherif and Medikal. The AMG rapper had an incredible night of his own, picking up four major trophies, including Best Hiplife/Hiphop Artiste and Most Popular Song of the Year for the viral hit “Shoulder.”
However, when the final category was announced in the early hours of Sunday morning, the Grand Arena erupted in a deafening roar as Black Sherif’s name was called. In his acceptance speech, the Konongo-Zongo native remained characteristically humble. He thanked Allah for granting him the opportunity to win the award again also thanked his team, bin and dad and everyone who voted.
Show-Stopping Performances
The 27th TGMA wasn’t just about the hardware; the stage saw some of the most technical and creative performances in the event’s history. Wendy Shay stunned the audience by showcasing her musical versatility, performing a masterclass set that included a live piano session. Black Sherif himself shut down the stage with a high-energy performance that proved exactly why he is Ghana’s most exported musical talent of the decade. Artiste of the year contenders Medikal, Dina Hamilton, Piesie Esther also took turns to prove to the audience why they deserve the ultimate award on the night.
As the curtains fell on the Grand Arena, the message was clear: the “Blacko” era is far from over. With a second Artiste of the Year title and a record-breaking year behind him, the Iron Boy is no longer just a rising star—he is the blueprint.
