Billionaire filmmaker Tyler Perry plan to relocate to Puerto Rico

Billionaire filmmaker Tyler Perry plan to relocate to Puerto Rico

Following his 57th birthday, Perry revealed plans to relocate to Puerto Rico in early 2027 to spend more quality time with his 11-year-old son, Aman, whom he shares with ex-partner Gelila Bekele. During recent media appearances—including a stop at The Jennifer Hudson Show—the mogul reflected on getting older, shifting his priorities, and protecting his peace.

A Step Back for Family

Addressing his relentless production schedule, Perry shared that aging prompted a reassessment of how he spends his time.

“Moving to Puerto Rico at the top of the year, and I’m pulling back a whole lot,” Perry said of his 2027 plans. “Getting older [inspired this]. It’s time to slow down a bit, enjoy more time with my son, and just take it all in.”

The decision marks a major pivot for Perry, whose massive 330-acre Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta has operated at a near-constant output for years.

Candid Words on Marriage on The Jennifer Hudson Show

Perry’s reflective mood carried over to his lively appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. After making a memorable entrance down the studio’s “spirit tunnel” to a customized choir chant, Perry joined host Jennifer Hudson for a sit-down that blended humor with stark honesty.

Hudson pointed out the irony of his career: despite building a billion-dollar empire on stories centering on relationships and matrimony—including his hit film franchise Why Did I Get Married?—Perry remains resolutely single.

When Hudson asked if he ever planned to tie the knot, Perry responded directly: “Nope.”

He elaborated with his characteristic humor and pragmatic realism:

“It’s not the marriage that bothers me, it’s the divorce. Everybody that I know that did well and went broke, it was because of a divorce. So I’m good just being free.”

Focusing on the Next Chapter

As he prepares for his move to Puerto Rico, Perry leaves behind a vast body of work to enjoy the fruits of his labor. With his legacy as a self-made entertainment icon firmly secured, the filmmaker’s next chapter will focus far less on breaking box office records and far more on fatherhood, freedom, and peaceful living.
