Politician and Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng (popularly known as A Plus), has launched a scathing attack on the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, following hints surrounding his potential presidential ambitions for the 2028 elections.
In a fierce public critique in a video sighted by Kmjofficial.com, A Plus questioned Asiedu Nketiah’s developmental track record, his age profile relative to high office, and the rationale behind seeking the nation’s top executive role after decades in frontline politics.
The Controversy: Age and Political Longevity
A Plus raised strong objections to the timeline of Asiedu Nketiah’s potential presidential run, targeting his age and comparing the prospect to past administrations.
“Now, you are 69. By the time you are inaugurated in 2029, you will be 72! And if you are President for two terms… you’ll leave office at 80. Ah! What did we do to deserve this? Why? Is it a curse or what?”
He further argued that the office of the President should not serve as an automatic reward or exit package for career politicians:
“The presidency is not a retirement package or a reward for spending decades in politics engaging in sarcasm. It is a solemn responsibility that demands vision, leadership, accountability, and measurable results.”
Attacks on Track Record and Underdevelopment
Beyond age, A Plus criticized Asiedu Nketiah over the economic and infrastructural conditions in his home region. He asserted that despite being rich in natural resources, local communities continue to face basic developmental deficits. A Plus highlighted that despite being blessed with timber, gold, and fertile land, local communities still lack fundamental infrastructure and basic sanitation services. Drawing a contrast with his own short stint in public office as an MP, A Plus claimed he had delivered more tangible achievements for his constituents in under two years than Asiedu Nketiah had across his lengthy career.
Asiedu Nketiah’s Response to Presidential Speculation
The criticism comes after Asiedu Nketiah addressed ongoing media speculation regarding whether he intends to seek the NDC flagbearership for the 2028 general elections.
Refusing to dismiss the possibility, the veteran politician famously remarked:
“If you are a politician and you have no ambition, you are in the wrong profession… How do you hide pregnancy? If you hide your intention to contest for a position, how do you campaign?”
When pressed directly on whether he would officially enter the race, Asiedu Nketiah stated that supporters and observers must wait until the official time is up for a declaration.
