The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is seeking a long-term, sustained partnership with iconic Ghanaian rapper Michael Owusu Addo, known professionally as Sarkodie (@sarkodie), aimed at nurturing student talent in the creative arts and expanding practical opportunities for entrepreneurship.
The strategic collaboration was proposed by KNUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Christian Agyare when Sarkodie and his management team paid a courtesy visit to his office. The courtesy call formed part of Sarkodie’s major “Kumasi Invasion” leading up to his highly anticipated Rapperholic concert scheduled to take place at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium this Saturday, October 24. Beyond the concert, the artist is in the region to spearhead activities under his broader Rapperholic 26 project, including the community-oriented Kumasi Rising initiative. The visit served as a vital bridge between the high-energy entertainment spectacle and impactful civic engagement, allowing the rap icon to connect directly with academia and youth leaders in the Ashanti Region.
Addressing the artist and his management team, Professor Agyare highlighted that the proposed partnership aligns directly with the university’s strategic commitment to developing sports, innovation, and the creative arts alongside core academic training. He emphasized that structured engagement with one of Africa’s premier music figures would establish formal mentorship pathways for students pursuing careers in music, performing arts, and media. Furthermore, the collaboration aims to equip young creatives with essential business acumen, allowing them to monetize their craft and build sustainable enterprises within the evolving creative economy, thereby bridging the gap between higher learning and the commercial entertainment sector.
Following the fruitful deliberations, KNUST officially named Sarkodie an ambassador for the university and presented him with a special VVIP souvenir in recognition of his contributions to youth empowerment and Ghanaian culture. As momentum builds toward Saturday’s showpiece event at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the institution’s endorsement highlights a mutual commitment to leveraging the Rapperholic platform and Kumasi Rising initiative to leave a transformative legacy for the student body.
